Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, visited the operational headquarters of Niji Group of Companies in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday. Niji Group, also known as Niji Agro Services, is a conglomerate with a three-decade track record of providing end-to-end solutions to Africa’s agriculture sector.

During the visit, Governor Zulum, accompanied by officials, toured the facilities and operations of Niji Group. The focus of the visit was to explore opportunities for promoting sustainable agricultural practices, particularly aimed at empowering local farmers in Borno who have been affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Zulum emphasized the shift from continuous palliative distribution to sustainable livelihoods through agriculture. He commended Niji Group’s contributions to commercial agriculture and food security, acknowledging the importance of technology, public-private partnerships, and increased investment in agricultural research and development.

The governor pledged support for initiatives enhancing the agricultural research ecosystem in Borno state. Accompanying him on the visit were officials from Oyo State, Borno State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, and representatives from the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers.

This visit aligns with Zulum’s commitment to leveraging agriculture for sustainable development and addressing challenges faced by farmers, underscoring the importance of innovation and knowledge-sharing in overcoming obstacles such as pests, diseases, climate change, and market access.
