Cassava is a staple and industrial food crop in Nigeria. It is also a major source of income for rural households. Currently, Nigeria is the largest producer of cassava in the world, with an annual production of over 54 million tons from an estimated area of 1.4 million hectares.
Cassava has resilient characteristics that make it a critical crop for Nigeria’s food security. Despite this, Nigeria is lagging behind in cassava exports. Its export value remains low compared to other major cassava-producing countries.

Although private agribusinesses are implementing strategies and working tirelessly to industrialise the crop, more progress is still needed.
Farmer Kolawole, Managing Director of Niji Group, was recently interviewed on BBC Sounds’ Business Daily, alongside other experts in the cassava industry. He spoke about Niji Group’s mission to establish systems that will help reshape the narrative of African agriculture.
Farmer Kola also highlighted how Niji empowers farmers in the community where their farm is located by providing them with essential inputs and support. Additionally, he shared valuable insights on how agriculture across Africa, not just in Nigeria, can be better developed and sustained.
